This well-done murder mystery is notable as Lionel Atwill's first starring role in a full-length feature. The British actor made a name for himself on Broadway where he appeared in dozens of successful plays. He starred in the stage production of Silent Witness and was a natural choice to reprise his role in the film version. Atwill plays an aristocratic father who takes the blame when his son strangles his wayward girlfriend (Greta Nissen) in a fit of rage. Believing he has a good chance of defending himself in court, Atwill doesn't realize the murder victim named her killer before she died, thus becoming a "silent witness." Atwill's career benefited from the success of this film and he was soon earning roles in many important films. Never before offered by Heritage, this stunning one sheet is an exquisite portrait of Nissen done in stone lithography with layers of rich colors. It has been professionally restored to address small tears at the top with one extending slightly into the artwork, a tear above the top horizontal fold, small crossfold separations, and small chips in the top and right borders.
