Description

For the Love of Mike (First National, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
After finding success on Broadway, Claudette Colbert made her screen debut in this ensemble comedy from the silent era. Although a small film by an unknown (at the time) director, the importance of this film lays in the fact that it was the first time Colbert would work with this new up and coming director -- Frank Capra. Seven years later, Capra would request Colbert once again for another little romantic comedy called It Happened One Night, one of the greatest pictures of the genre, cementing the fame of both star and director, and earning them both Oscars. In this early film, Colbert stars as a bubbly co-ed, opposite Ben Lyon, as an orphan who is raised in a tough neighborhood by a trio of good Samaritans -- George Sidney, Ford Sterling, and Hugh Cameron. This gorgeous stone litho one sheet is one of the earliest images of Colbert, at the beginning of her very successful career. It has been professionally restored to address crossfold separations with minor chips and tears in the left and bottom borders, small areas of missing paper in the image area and top border. The restoration is extremely well done and these issues now do not distract from this rare and important gem of a poster. Very Good+ on Linen.
