Description
General Crack (Warner Bros., 1930). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.General Crack was the fourth and final collaboration between director Alan Crosland and John Barrymore, following other historical dramas Don Juan (1926), When a Man Loves (1927), and The Beloved Rogue (1927). It features Barrymore in a dual role as a military leader and his son in 18th century Austria. Today the film survives in several incomplete formats; the Vitaphone discs of the film's soundtrack are extant, but the original talkie version of the film is lost. A silent version of the film survives with Czech intertitles, but the footage does not match up to the audio. While we may not be able to enjoy General Crack in its original glory today, collectors can certainly appreciate the stunning stone litho poster depicting Barrymore with costar Marian Nixon. This is only the second time Heritage Auctions has offered this style poster. It has been mounted on linen to address minor fold wear, pinholes and small tears in the upper corners, and a small chip in the right border, with some airbrush work to the black background due to imperfections in the printing process.
