Description

The Blue Angel (Paramount, 1930). Folded, Very Fine/Near Mint. Swedish One Sheet (27.5" X 39.5"). Gosta Aberg Artwork.
Professor Immanuel Rath (Emil Jannings), a respected teacher at a German boarding school, becomes infatuated with Lola Lola (Marlene Dietrich), a seductive cabaret singer. His obsession with the showgirl leads to his downward spiral as he abandons his career, dignity, and respect to follow her into the world of seedy nightlife. A landmark of German cinema, The Blue Angel, directed by Josef von Sternberg, marked the breakout role for Marlene Dietrich and catapulted both her and the director to Hollywood fame. Their success with the film led to a fruitful collaboration at Paramount Pictures, where they created six films together between 1930 and 1935, including such enduring classics as Morocco, Dishonored, and Shanghai Express. This rare poster shows Dietrich in her famous pose with a super-imposed image of Jannings looking down on her. A first time offering at Heritage. The poster is fabulous, with just a small split at the bottom of the vertical fold.
