Description

Brass Commandments (Fox, 1923). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 40").
This Western served as a vehicle for Fox star William Farnum, and was adapted from Charles Alden Seltzer's novel of the same name. At the time Farnum was one of the higher paid actors in Hollywood and enjoyed great success in the Western genre, which were very popular with moviegoing audiences and a particular favorite at Fox Film. Brass Commandments ended up being one of Farnum's last silent films despite his stardom. Less than a year after that film's release, he suffered serious injuries while filming The Man Who Fights Alone, which put him out of commission until the beginning of the sound era. Offered by Heritage for the first time in seven years is the one sheet for Brass Commandments, which depicts Farnum's "Flash" Lanning preparing to draw his pistol on villainous cattle rustlers. The poster's restoration has addressed chips near the top and center cross folds by replacing the missing paper and applying touch-up, and light fold wear and another small chip in the bottom border have also been touched up. Some creases are faintly visible around the upper horizontal fold, and the left corners in the borders are very lightly stained.
