Description
Gone with the Wind (MGM, 1939). Fine/Very Fine. Roadshow Lobby Card (11" X 14") Armando Seguso Artwork. When they were reading the most popular novel in the country during the Great Depression, readers knew immediately who they pictured in their minds as the roguish Rhett Butler: Clark Gable, the most popular actor of the day. When Margaret Mitchell's bestseller was casting for a movie, audiences around the country were relieved when they heard that Gable was going to star as the leading man. David O. Selznick himself wanted no other than Gable, who MGM was reluctant to loan out to other studios, but when MGM offered up their top star and $1,250,000 for half the profits and release of the film, it was an offer Selznick couldn't refuse. Offered here is a lobby card of Gable for the roadshow release of Gone with the Wind, illustrated by Armando Seguso. The card shows some touchup and airbrushing to address pinholes and slight creases in the borders. Additional airbrushing has been applied to scuffs and scratches in Gable's lower face, neck, and collar.
