Description

A Night at the Opera (MGM, 1935). Very Fine+ on Linen. Pre-War Belgian (24" X 33"). Al Hirschfeld Artwork.
The Marx Brothers' first film at MGM and a shift toward more structured comedy, the film blended slapstick with story-driven romance and music. Directed by Sam Wood and produced by Irving Thalberg, the film pairs Groucho, Chico, and Harpo with a coherent plot: Otis B. Driftwood (Groucho) aims to impress a wealthy widow by involving her in financing an opera. Along the way, he helps two struggling performers, Ricardo and Rosa, while mocking the pompous and corrupt elite of the opera world. With support from Chico and Harpo, the uproarious comedy is a laugh a minute. This gorgeous poster has been backed to linen with no restoration and is lovely.
