Description
The Escape of Jim Dolan (Selig, 1913). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41.5").One of the pioneering film studios in the U.S., the Selig Polyscope Company is distinct for several "firsts", including establishing the first permanent production studio in Southern California and producing the first films of some of the earliest American movie stars, like Harold Lloyd, "Fatty" Arbuckle, and Colleen Moore. The company was also heavily involved in the development of the Western genre, fostering the careers of stars like Tom Mix and establishing the scenery and imagery that still endure in the genre today. The Escape of Jim Dolan came during an incredibly prolific multi-year run for Mix while with Selig and stands as one of the hundreds of films that helped solidify his star power and the immense popularity of the genre. The one sheet for the film offered here highlight Mix's characters run-in with the law that drives the story, as well as the eponymous prison break. The poster's borders, which had chips that have been replaced and mild paper lifts, have been painted, and very light touch-up has been applied to a few minor crossfold separations in the upper third of the image, skilled restorative work that aids the piece's charming picture of Hollywood's take on the Wild West.
