Description

The Sea Hawk (Warner Brothers, 1940). Three Sheet (41.75" X 80").
Director Michael Curtiz made thirteen films with Errol Flynn, three in 1940 alone, including this superb swashbuckler set in the Elizabethan era. Flynn stars as the adventurer Captain Geoffrey Thorpe, a pirate looting Spanish ships on behalf of England, but without the blessing of the Queen (Flora Robson). When Thorpe captures the Spanish vessel carrying ambassador Don Jose Alvarez de Cordoba (Claude Rains), he falls in love with the dignitary's niece Dona Maria (Brenda Marshall). With much danger on the high seas, sword play, and high romance, this film is always popular with Flynn fans. This three sheet retains highly impressive color, and has touchup to the folds for creases and chips at the crossfolds, pinholes in the corners, and small tears at the edges. There is some ink stamp bleedthrough in the upper left background that is still visible. The bottom panel was missing and has been recreated, however the top 2/3 of the poster is original. Very Good+ on Linen.
