Description

Adventures of Captain Marvel (Republic, 1941). Fine+ on Linen. Six Sheet (79" X 81").
We believe this to be the only known copy of the rare six sheet for this classic Republic serial. Taken from the popular Fawcett comic book character, this serial is considered by many to be one of the best ever produced by the King of the serial studios. When a young boy is given the power to transform into a superhero with a single magic word, Captain Marvel is born. Western star Tom Tyler was never better than as the heroic Marvel. This wonderful large format poster with bright colors and great eye appeal had pre-restoration issues such as a large hole within the head of Scorpion, the cloaked villain. Also present is wear to the folds and scattered chips, such as in the word "Directors" and within the large title of "Captain Marvel." There was a long tear in the torso of the hero. The linen has been trimmed up to the edges of the poster but not into the borders. The poster has had no airbrush work, and the folds are evident in some instances. Assuredly, this poster would benefit from more contemporary restoration services. This poster was originally printed in four different panels.
