Lost Horizon (Columbia, 1937). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Advance, James Montgomery Flagg.
Columbia concocted an enormous publicity campaign for this Frank Capra fantasy classic, which included five different one sheets. Legendary illustrator James Montgomery Flagg, the creator of Uncle Sam, designed this special advance poster, designed to look like matted painting with beveled image and title areas. The sumptuous image is Montgomery Flagg's primary key art for the film, featuring Ronald Coleman escaping into his Himalayan Shangri-La. Exceedingly rare, this is a first time offering for Heritage, and one of the most unique and interesting posters ever produced. The film went on to win two Academy Awards and remains a highlight in Capra's catalog. Backed to linen, the poster exhibits some airbrushing to the background areas.
