Description
Lawless Love (Fox, 1918). One Sheet (28" X 42").A Heritage first, this stone litho one sheet features Jewel Carmen as a vaudeville artist stranded in Arizona with her dancing partner (Edward Hearn) when their troupe breaks up. In a scheme to raise money, she asks her partner to impersonate wanted outlaw "Black Jim" to collect the reward. Her plans are thwarted when the real outlaw shows up and kidnaps her. Based upon Western author Max Brand's first published work (1918) a novelette called "Above the Law." Brand would later write more than 500 novels for magazines and almost as many short stories. This poster was printed by Alpha Litho, an early lithographer in New York that was used by several studios such as Triangle, Fox and Paramount. They appear to have gone out of the movie poster printing business by the late teens. The poster has impressive color saturation, and professional restoration has it ready to display. Touchup was applied to chips and tears in the borders, chips in the top horizontal fold, a tear and two holes in the top left white background, and a tear in the left border that extends into the hand of Woodward. Fine+ on Linen.
