Mossant (1938). Very Fine- on Linen. Trimmed French Grande (43" X 63") Leonetto Cappiello Artwork.
Born in Livano, Italy in 1875, Leonetto Cappiello began his career in art as a caricaturist before devoting his talents to painting and poster design in 1900. Cappiello's talents and prolific output in the early 1900s earned him the moniker of "the father of modern advertising." Late in his career, Cappiello created this lovely stone litho poster for popular French hat manufacturer Mossant. The linen is trimmed to the edges of the poster, and the poster's borders are trimmed to the image area. There are also a few minute tears, a small amount of rippling near the top of the poster, and light scuffs and smudges. Beyond the linen backing, no further restoration has been attempted.
