Description
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1937). Near Mint-. CGC Graded Lobby Card (11" X 14").Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated feature produced by Walt Disney, is based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The film follows the story of Snow White, a kind-hearted princess who escapes the wrath of her jealous stepmother, the Evil Queen, by seeking refuge with seven dwarfs in the forest. When the Queen, determined to remain the fairest of them all, casts a poisoned spell, Snow White falls into a deep sleep, only to be awakened by true love's kiss. Hailed for its groundbreaking animation, endearing characters, and emotional depth, the film was both a critical and commercial triumph. It received a special Academy Award: one full-sized Oscar accompanied by seven miniature statuettes, honoring its unique achievement. At the time, the project was considered an enormous financial risk. Dubbed "Disney's Folly" by skeptics, many in Hollywood doubted audiences would sit through a feature-length animated film. Walt Disney, however, believed in its potential so strongly that he mortgaged his home and committed the studio's full resources to its production. The budget ultimately soared to $1.5 million-an unprecedented figure for an animated film. As funds dwindled, Disney screened a rough cut to secure additional financing. The gamble paid off. Upon its 1937 release, Snow White became a massive box office hit, earning over $8 million during its initial run-a record-breaking success, especially remarkable during the Great Depression. CGC graded with a rating of 9.2.
