Description
Flying Down to Rio (RKO, 1933). Very Good/Fine on Linen. Spanish One Sheet (27.5" X 39").Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers made their musical screen debut in 1933 with Flying Down to Rio, dazzling audiences with their performance of the "Carioca"-a number that, almost by accident, launched Hollywood's most famous dance duo. Produced by Merian C. Cooper, the film is best remembered for its jaw-dropping spectacle, particularly an extravagant musical sequence featuring the title tune, where hundreds of barely-clad showgirls, strapped to the wings of biplanes, sway and dance as they soar over Rio de Janeiro. This breathtaking and wildly inventive number remains one of the most audacious moments in movie musical history. Alongside King Kong (also produced by Cooper), Flying Down to Rio helped rescue RKO Radio Studios from financial ruin, proving to be a massive box-office success. The film's popularity prompted the studio to pair Astaire and Rogers again, leading to a string of legendary collaborations. While "Carioca" was nominated for Best Original Song at the 7th Academy Awards, it lost to "The Continental" from their next film, The Gay Divorcee, further cementing their place in Hollywood history. This Spanish poster (printed in Barcelona, whose abbreviation is "Barna") features the same artwork as the highly-coveted American one sheet. There is uniform paper toning, fold wear, airbrushed borders, repaired corners, and several pieces that have been replaced. The linen has been trimmed to the border. From the Benito Medela-Piquepe Collection.
