Description

King Kong (RKO, 1933). Very Fine. Lobby Card (11" X 14").
One of the most iconic films in cinematic history, King Kong is heralded as an innovative film that influenced untold numbers of filmmakers, and in particular, animators such as Ray Harryhausen and Jim Danforth. Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, the film follows documentary filmmaker Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) as he leads an expedition to the mysterious Skull Island, where they encounter prehistoric dinosaurs and a strange beast named Kong behind a giant wall, to whom the islanders sacrifice 'brides'. When Kong becomes enamored with actress Ann Darrow (Fay Wray), he is captured and brought back to New York City, leading to one of cinema's most unforgettable climaxes atop the newly opened Empire State Building. The film's revolutionary stop-motion effects by Willis O'Brien were cutting-edge at the time and remain influential today. Kong was brought to life through a combination of miniature models, full-size props, and expressive animation that gave the creature an emotional depth unusual for the era. Max Steiner's dramatic score, one of the earliest examples of a full symphonic soundtrack in film, further heightened the sense of spectacle. This wonderful card featuring the film's sequence of Kong atop the skyscraper, battling vintage bi-planes, is unrestored. There is some light edge wear, minute corner bumps, a small bend to the upper left, and some faint toning. An amazing card that would be a cornerstone to any collection.
