    Description
Fighting Fate (Vitagraph, 1921). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41") Chapter 5 -- "Double Crossed."This adventure serial was produced by Vitagraph Studios, which like many other members of the dissolved Motion Picture Patents Company was struggling to stay afloat as many of their top stars moved to other growing companies or began producing films independently. Serials had proven to be a reliable format for solid financial success, and stars William Duncan and Edith Johnson (married in real life) were well-known to the public for their work in earlier serials. Vitagraph found unusual success with Duncan as one of their premiere box office attractions, with him becoming one of the highest-paid actors in the industry with his extensive work in serials and Westerns. Fighting Fate is no exception. Promotional press on the film highlighted that the storytelling between episodes allowed the serial to play more as a more satisfying, whole piece rather than in the more fragmented nature of other contemporary serials. Heritage offers for the first time the one sheet for the fifth entry in Fighting Fate, "Double Crossed," which showcases thrilling and fun artwork of Duncan trapped in a display case while a mysterious smoke envelops him. This is only the second one-sheet we have offered for the serial, and movie paper from any of the chapters is extremely rare. Parts of the top and left borders were replaced and all the borders were airbrushed, and minor issues in the interior including small chips, slight crossfold separations, scattered pinholes, creases, and mild staining in the credits area were treated with touch-up.
