Description
Cock of the Air (United Artists, 1932). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Hap Hadley Artwork. For the first time in nearly seven years, Heritage offers this charming stone litho one sheet with the high flying Chester Morris and Billie Dove embracing above the clouds, compliments of artist Hap Hadley. In this romantic comedy, a vain French actress (Dove) is "set up" with a debonair aviation officer (Morris) in Italy. Evidence survives that the Hays office compiled a list of suggestions for producer Howard Hughes to bring the film into conformity with the censorship code. But Hughes had already shipped a positive print of the film to every state in the union before even securing an MPPDA approval from the Hays office. Hays learned from the preview that Hughes had ignored all of his suggestions concerning conforming to the code. This very rare piece has had touchup to a few chips within the borders and a couple of very minute surface scuffs within the title area. Restoration has addressed the border and folds, including minor fold separation. From the Theaters of Old Detroit collection.
