Description

Burning Daylight (Paramount, 1914). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (42" X 80.5").
Jack London's adventure novel from which this film is based, was serialized in the New York Herald between June and August of 1910. This film was shot in Truckee and San Francisco, California, and stars the producer, Hobart Bosworth, as Alaskan Elam Harnish, called "Burning Daylight." The film starts out in Alaska, where Bosworth make his fortune, and travels to San Francisco, where he loses it and later regains it. Jack London is well-remembered today as the author of "The Call of the Wild", but he was also one of the most successful adventure novelists at the start of the twentieth century, and his action-packed novels superbly translated to the new motion picture industry, which adapted many of London's works, always giving the ultra-popular author very large credit on the posters for his movies! This spectacular early Paramount release stone litho three sheet is probably the only surviving example of this poster. It has been backed on linen and shows very minimal signs of use, such as fold wear, cross fold separation, and very subtle bits of paper loss. Restoration has addressed most of the issues and airbrushing has been applied to the folds and parts of the image.
