Description

An Odyssey of the North (Paramount, 1914). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (42.25 X 82").
This very scarce stone litho features imagery inspired by Jack London's Klondike Eskimo Inuit adventure story called The Sun of the Wolf (1900). The movie starred, and was directed and produced by Hobart Bosworth. This is the tragic story of Naass, who has been raised by Eskimos, and falls in love with one of them. After his love is kidnapped, he goes in search of her and is arrested by Russians for being in forbidden waters and winds up in Siberia. Jack London is well-remembered today as the author of "The Call of the Wild", but he was also one of the most successful adventure novelists at the start of the twentieth century, and his action-packed novels superbly translated to the new motion picture industry, which adapted many of London's works, always giving the ultra-popular author very large credit on the posters for his movies! This is likely the only surviving example of this three sheet, and movie paper of any kind from this movie is extremely rare. The poster has had some restoration, which includes minor paper loss within the title, fold wear/crossfold separations, and minor chips within the folds and borders of the lower panel. The poster was printed in three panels and is backed on linen.
