Description
El Gato sin botas (Peliculas Mexicanas, 1957). Folded, Very Good/ Fine. Mexican Export One Sheet (27.5" X 39.25") Ernesto Garcia Cabral Artwork.Agustín (Tin-Tan) is a cowardly man in love with Laura (Martha Valdez), a movie actress. He travels to Mexico City to find her and experiences many adventures in the process. His grandpa recites to him the history of the legendary fairy tale, the Puss in Boots, because it turns out that all men in his family have seven lives (or nine, in some variations), like cats. Starring Tin-Tan (Germán Valdés) and Martha Valdés, and directed by Fernando Cortés. Being a silkscreen on acidic paper, this type of rare, original Mexican printing is, by nature of its material and substrate, quite fragile and brittle, so very few of these vintage serigraphs survive the slings and arrows of age, humidity, heat, and more. This is a first-time offer for Heritage, and we are only aware of one other example of this silkscreen style ever coming previously to the auction marketplace. It shows varying age toning throughout, pinholes mainly at corners, fold separations and small crossfold losses, a 0.5" square loss at lower left, a 2" circular tear at center right (paper is nearly all present), though in spite of all this, the item's rarity and charming caricature art, adapted from legendary Spanish illustrator Ernesto Garcia Cabral, make this a worthy candidate for linen-backing and preservation.
