Description

King Kong (RKO, R-1942). Very Fine on Linen. Six Sheet (79" X 81").
What more can be said about this ground-breaking film that has not been said before? Among the most famous film monsters of all time, it spawned a sequel, remakes, numerous look-alikes, a Japanese revival and finally a newly found popularity in modern cinema. The popularity of the movie led it it being re-issued multiple times, saving the RKO studio financially at different points in history. It has the first feature length film soundtrack (written by the legendary Max Steiner) and it influenced scores of future Hollywood figures including the great Ray Harryhausen. Premiering in two theatres simultaneously in New York City (Radio City and the Roxy), it drew $90,000.00 in box office on its first day and was sold out at both theatres for 10 days straight. I could go on and on and as a longtime fan of this classic film, I say it is among the best ever. Backed to linen, restoration has addressed wear, splits and chips on the fold lines and fold junctions, as well as a few splits and small chips to the borders. Additionally, there has been a small amount of airbrushing to the border areas. These issues were handled expertly and the poster presents beautifully. We have never encountered another example of this rare poster, and it is a newly found rarity to boot that has never before been offered for public sale. I don't know how many ways to exclaim the greatness of this poster, so I'll leave that to you. If you're seriously interested in this title, don't let it get away, as you'll likely never have another chance to own one. From the Robert and Carla Schenk Collection.
