Description

Barbarella (Paramount, 1968). Fine on Linen. Argentinean One Sheet (28.25" X 43").
Released in 1968 and directed by Roger Vadim, Barbarella is one of the premiere cult classics, blending high camp, Pop Art aesthetics, and sci-fi satire. Starring Jane Fonda as the fearless, free-spirited interstellar agent on a mission to find the missing scientist Durand-Durand, the character quickly became an iconic symbol of the 1960s sexual revolution. With its vibrant, psychedelic visuals and playful campiness, Barbarella pushed boundaries, combining sensuality and sci-fi to capture the spirit of the counterculture movement and introduce a bold, empowered portrayal of femininity in science fiction. Despite mixed reviews at first, the film achieved cult status and remains a favorite among Pop Art enthusiasts, thanks to its Zubuk-inspired set designs and costumes. The film's infamous zero-gravity striptease scene, created using wires and harnesses, stands as one of its many innovative special effects that pushed the boundaries of cinema. With its over-the-top space spoof narrative and a star-studded supporting cast, including John Phillip Law, Marcel Marceau, and Anita Pallenberg, Barbarella continues to influence pop culture, from comic books to fashion. This vibrant original release Argentinean one sheet, Heritage's first offering of it since 2012, displays the same fabulous artwork as the American 40" X 60" poster, a favorite among collectors. Professional restoration throughout has employed touchup and a few areas of replacement to address edge and fold wear, creases, pinholes, misfolds, a few tears, ink stain bleedthrough, and moderate chips. From the Sam Sarowitz Collection.
