Description
Cobra (Paramount, 1925). Folded, Fine. Banner (35.5" X 119").In his next-to-last screen appearance, Rudolph Valentino plays Count Rodrigo Torrian, a notorious ladies' man who flees to the U.S., seeking a new trade. But in the U.S. he gets involved with Nita Naldi, a rich socialite. Cobra reunited Valentino with Naldi, who had starred with him in Blood and Sand and A Sainted Devil. Valentino's wife, Natacha Rambova, also has a small part in the film. 1921's The Sheik had cemented Valentino's reputation as a legendary screen lover and female moviegoers not only went to all his films, but dragged their boyfriends and husbands with them! Valentino made one more movie after this one, and then sadly passed away from peritonitis on August 23, 1926 at the age of 31, and at the height of his fame, and the entire world was stunned and mourned his passing. Offered for the first time by Heritage, this is almost surely the only surviving example of this banner. It exhibits fold wear, creases, two bits of paper loss in the bottom border, stains, and light foxing. There is bleed-through from paint applied to the verso. The corners are folded, and the banner is equipped with grommets in the borders for hanging (as issued).
