Beyond the Rocks (Paramount, 1922). Very Fine-. Lobby Cards (4) (11" X 14").
Based on the 1906 Elinor Glyn novel of the same name, Paramount selected its reigning queen, Gloria Swanson, for the lead role in this romantic melodrama, and her co-star was Rudolph Valentino, who was billed as "Rodolph" and who would soon rival Swanson's success! A rising star at the time of this film's release, Valentino had already had much success with The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Camille, and The Sheik just one year before this movie, but Swanson's star was still so much bigger that she alone was billed on the lobby cards! A box office hit, Gloria Swanson would go on to release four more films with director Sam Wood, and Valentino would continue to make movies until his untimely death four short years later. Two different sets of lobby cards exist for the film something studios rarely did, and only for their foremost productions. In wonderful condition, the cards show slight edge wear, soft corner bumps, pinholes, corner chips backed by strips of tape, and dust shadows along the right border in one lobby card.
