It Had to Be You by Anselmo Ballester (Columbia, 1948). Fine/Very Fine. Signed Original Italian Gouache Artwork for 2 - Fogli on Illustration Board (18" X 22").
The word "prolific" can only begin to describe the career of Italian poster artist Anselmo Ballester, who created dozens of beautiful illustrations from the late 1910s to the early 1960s. He joined together with other noted artists Luigi Martinati and Alfredo Capitani to form BCM, a design studio specializing in movie posters. Ballester's distinctive style focused greatly on the interplay of light and shadow, matched with brilliantly painted sketches and exquisite detail. This portrait of Ginger Rogers and Cornel Wilde, used for the film's 2 - fogli poster, showcases Ballester's undeniable talent, all painted in rich gouache and signed by the artist. A very rare piece making its first appearance at Heritage, this painting shows edge wear and foxing, which extends into the image. Fine/Very Fine.
