Description

The Jolly Jilter (Pathé, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Collection of Frank Buxton, of which the sale's proceeds will benefit The San Francisco Silent Film Festival.
Ben Turpin will be forever remembered as the cross-eyed comedian of the silent age. His comedy was broad slapstick written for him by some of Sennett's funniest gagmen, such as Frank Capra and Mal St. Clair. Touchup has been applied to edge and fold wear, pinholes, mild tears, and minor chips. There was a large tear in the lower left corner and background, a tear from the lower border up to the word "Jolly," and paper loss in the lower left corner that did not extend into the black background. Fine on Linen.
