Description
Rebecca (Columbia, Late-1940s). First Post-War Release French Affiche (23" X 31.25").David O. Selznick produced this Best Picture-winning suspense classic, the first of several successful projects with master storyteller Alfred Hitchcock. Considered by many fans to be one of Hitchcock's greatest, the film is based on Daphne du Maurier's gothic novel. The ghost of the first Mrs. de Winter haunts her husband's new wife, played by Joan Fontaine, in her first major role. Fontaine plays the increasingly timid and fearful wife to perfection, and is convincingly wary of the handsome but aloof Maxim (Laurence Olivier). Judith Anderson, George Sanders, and Nigel Bruce co-star. A remarkable find, this rare French poster features superb artwork by Claire Finel. Restoration has addressed chips in the top left, bottom right corner, bottom left corner/credits, and pinholes in the corners. Touchup near Fontaine's collarbone and face has been applied to minimize light bleed through from writing on verso. The poster now presents very nicely, and its uniqueness is highly appealing for Hitchcock fans. Fine+ on Linen.
