Description

The Misfits (United Artists, 1961). Poster (40" X 60") Style Z.
Combine the stellar cast of Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift with famous director John Huston, a script by award winning playwright Arthur Miller, and a classic American film is born. The shoot was wrought with difficulties and setbacks due to Monroe's growing dependence on alcohol and drugs. Yet, upon release was critically acclaimed and well received. This amazingly rare poster, one of two known copies, announces Magnum Photos assignment of nine of their greatest photographers to document the making of the film. Magnum is and was a famous photographer's cooperative. The photographers who all have one of their photos shown on the poster were: Eve Arnold, Monroe's most trusted photographer; Henri Cartier-Bresson, founder of Magnum and father of modern photo journalism; Ernest Haas, influential color photography innovator; Bruce Davidson, famous civil rights photographer; Cornell Capa, brother of Magnum co-founder Robert Capa; Erich Hartmann (misspelled on poster); Elliott Erwitt; Dennis Stock; well-known photographer of James Dean; and Inge Morath, one of Huston's favorite photographers who later married Arthur Miller, whom she met on the set of this film. Signs of minor handling include light edge wear, a tear in the left border, a stain in the bottom border, and pinholes in the top border. If you are a fan of this film or its stars, this is your chance to acquire a scarce Style Z poster! Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
