After winning the Blake Ranch in a poker game, Smoke (George O'Brien) is shaken when its former owner takes his own life. In an act of generosity, he deeds the ranch to Blake's young daughter (Betsy King Ross), hoping to secure her future. However, his kindness is met with treachery when the corrupt sheriff, eager to seize the land for himself, falsely accuses Smoke of murder and conspires to install an impostor as the girl's rightful guardian.
