Description
Ladies to Board (Fox, 1924). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41").A Heritage first, this stone litho one sheet comes from one of Tom Mix's movies from the height of his popularity in the mid-1920s. Directed by Jack Blystone this comedic Fox production casts Tom Mix as the heir to a sanatorium for older women and includes an unsavory supper party that develops into somewhat of a comedic leg show. The picture co-stars Tom Faxon, Phil McCullough, Gertrude Claire, Pee-Wee Holmes, Gertrude Olmstead, and Tony the "Wonder Horse." Note that Tony, Tom Mix's horse received credit on this poster when his human co-stars did not! This was completely justified, because Tony was the most talented horse ever to appear in movies, as he could perform tricks and stunts no other film horse could do. Although this film was promoted as a comedy, it was a hit with the usual audiences who loved Mix's true cowboy movies. Posters from Mix's early career are some of the rarest in the hobby and are among the most desirable posters for true Western collectors. This is the only remaining one sheet to exist from the film that we know of, and the poster has been professionally restored and backed on linen. The one sheet has benefited from touchup to fold wear and paper loss in the upper and lower crossfolds. Parts of Mix's credit has been expertly replaced and light color touchup has been applied. Each of the borders and two cross fold areas have been airbrushed. A wonderful addition to any collection with its beautifully saturated color.
