Description

Atlantic City by Gerard Huerta (Paramount, 1980). Signed Original Mixed Media Poster Artwork (22" X 28").
Letterform and logo designer Gerald Huerta, a giant in graphic design for the "look" of heavy metal typography found in his logos for AC/DC and Blue Oyster Cult, also produced album covers and logos for such performers as Boston, Ted Nugent, and Bob Dylan. He made his small mark in movie posters with the likes of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Bronco Billy, and this piece offered for the first time at Heritage, Atlantic City. The multi-Oscar nominated film featuring Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon is about a small time mobster and the estranged wife of a drug dealer being thrown together in a world of drugs, money, love, and certain danger. Although the movie poster is credited by both Huerta and longtime studio partner Roger Huyssen, this original piece only shows the Huerta logo work. Taking cues from the Atlantic City boardwalk's iconic roller coasters, Huerta incorporates that detail with masterful symmetrical typography encircling the 'city' detail and highlighting in a dazzling neon sign effect with a wide spectrum of colors. The imagery is fantastic with only some very minor blemishing in the black background. Huerta's signed name is to the very left of the logo. The art board is mounted to foamcore. Near Mint.
