Mata Hari (MGM, 1931). Very Fine- on Linen. Pre-War Belgian (23.5" X 33").
Greta Garbo was perfectly cast as the real-life German spy during WWI, Mata Hari. Working for the Germans, she seduces two Russian officers (Ramon Novarro and Lionel Barrymore) before being captured and put on trial for her life. In the pre-WWII larger format, this Belgian poster depicts the mysterious Garbo dancing her way into the minds of men. Posters for this elusive title are almost as mysterious as the Swedish Sphinx herself. This incredible poster shows virtually no wear to it. It would be graded higher except that the poster does have some overprinting on top of it, probably from being in contact with another poster at one time. This appears vertically through Garbo's body and on the lower horizontal fold line above the title of the film. The linen has been trimmed to the edge of the poster.
