Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1937). Very Good/Fine on Linen. Poster (40" X 60"). Gustaf Tenggren Artwork.
Recently discovered in Europe, this is only the second example of the spectacular photo gelatin 40" X 60" for Walt Disney's first full-length animated picture to ever surface in the collector's market . A showpiece of legendary illustrator Gustaf Tenggren's artwork for the film, the poster depicts a myriad of memorable scenes from the film including Snow White's terrifying trip through the forest, her meeting of the dwarfs, her awakening through true love's kiss, and the Evil Queen brewing her potions. Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, it tells the story of a kind-hearted princess who, after fleeing her jealous stepmother, finds refuge with seven dwarfs in the forest. When the Evil Queen tricks her into eating a poisoned apple, Snow White falls into a deep sleep, only to be awakened by true love's kiss. A massive critical and commercial success, Snow White revolutionized animation, launched Disney's feature film legacy, and remains a beloved classic worldwide. Backed to linen, there was color enhancements throughout the image and borders were recreated. Touchup has a addressed a long vertical tear running from the top in to the artwork, a tear at upper left, and one at bottom left, as well as occasion surface issues. Thanks to these attentions, this excessively rare large format poster presents well and is surely a rival for "fairest one of all" in any advanced collection.
