Description
The Green Eyed Monster (Norman, 1919). Very Fine on Linen. Six Sheet (78.5" X 80").This early railroad action-drama from Richard E. Norman was the first ever race film produced by Norman Film Manufacturing Company and featured an all-star & all-black cast, a new type of film genre that the studio would become synonymous with after 1920. Intrigued by a risky niche market just after a successful tour with his experimental railroad industry picture The Wrecker, Norman re-adapted the film's script and hired an all-black cast, producing one of his most expensive attractions, The Green Eyed Monster. Reportedly, over one million dollars worth of railroad equipment was used in the production in addition to footage of an $80,000 train wreck. Advertised as an attraction "worth going miles to see," the film promised exciting action sequences from train wrecks and burning automobiles to bloody fistfights in the railroad yards. The film was well received, however, but audiences felt the comedic elements were out of place in this action film, and the clever Mr., Norman cut them from the picture, releasing them under a new title The Love Bug., thus getting two popular films for the price of filming one. Both films were often screened together with The Love Bug serving as a pre-feature extra. This film stars Jack Austin, Louise Dunbar, Robert Stewart, and Steve "Peg" Reynolds, the one-legged actor who would appear in several Norman Studio pictures. A truly historical piece of early cinema, this magnificent six sheet has been skillfully backed on linen and had only small tears in the borders and chips in the folds which have been addressed. Light airbrushing was sporadically applied to the borders.
