Description
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, R-1944). Fine+ on Linen. British Quad (30" X 39.75").Making its Heritage debut is this delightfully charming British quad for the landmark film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The brainchild of the one and only Walt Disney, this groundbreaking animated feature set the standard for storytelling in animation and cemented Disney's legacy as a pioneer in the film industry. Adapted from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the film follows the kind-hearted princess Snow White as she escapes her wicked stepmother, the Evil Queen, and finds refuge with seven charming dwarfs in the forest. Featuring the voices of Adriana Caselotti, Roy Atwell, Eddie Collins, Lucille La Verne, and more, with direction by animation pioneer David Hand, it captivated audiences with its lush hand-drawn animation and memorable songs like "Heigh-Ho" and "Someday My Prince Will Come." As the first full-length cel-animated feature in cinema history, the film was initially dubbed "Disney's Folly" due to its staggering $1.5 million budget during the Great Depression. However, it became a critical and commercial triumph, earning a special Academy Award that came in the form of seven miniature statuettes. Even decades later, as seen with this 1944 British reissue, the film continues to enchant audiences with its magic, fun, and timeless artistry, remaining a beloved cornerstone of Disney's legacy. Backed on linen, some airbrushing and touchup applied primarily along the borders and within the upper right background has corrected slight edge and fold wear, pinholes, some creases, and a few chips and tears. Other visible flaws include light fold wear, smudges, pinholes, printing offset, and light image ghosting.
