Description

Captain Blood (Warner Bros. - First National, 1935). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27.25" X 40.75").
This landmark one sheet for Captain Blood captures the swashbuckling spirit of the film that launched Errol Flynn from relative obscurity to instant stardom, cementing him as Warner Brothers' leading face of adventure cinema for the next decade. Adapted from Rafael Sabatini's novel, the story of a wrongly accused physician turned pirate leader blends romance, justice, and high-seas spectacle, while also showcasing Olivia de Havilland in her first celebrated pairing with Flynn. Featuring Lionel Atwill as the authoritarian Colonel Bishop and Basil Rathbone as the treacherous Levasseur, the film remains one of the greatest swashbucklers ever made, renowned for its thrilling duels and romantic charm. Original paper on this title is exceedingly scarce, and this rare one sheet, appearing here as only the third offering from Heritage, stands as both a cinematic treasure and a cornerstone of Golden Age Hollywood collecting. Slightly heavy restoration has addressed edge and fold wear, several pinholes, creases, additional folds, fold/crossfold separation, many tears, and some chips and stains. Some flaws and restoration may remain lightly visible. From the Robert and Carla Schenk Collection.
