Description

Tarzan the Mighty (Croeze-Bosman Film, 1928). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Pre-War Belgian (24.75" X 33.5").
This vibrant pre-war Belgian for Tarzan the Mighty is a rare and striking survival, as posters from this film are exceptionally difficult to find. Showcasing Frank Merrill and Natalie Kingston, the artwork reflects the global reach of Edgar Rice Burroughs' beloved jungle hero during the transitional period from silent cinema to sound. Merrill, the fifth actor to portray Tarzan, holds several key milestones in the character's screen legacy: he pioneered the "swinging vine" technique that became a hallmark of the series and was the first to deliver the jungle "victory cry" on film when the serial was partially dubbed with sound in 1929. Sold only once previously in our history, this example has benefited from professional restoration that has corrected fold wear, creases, minor fold/crossfold separation, mostly small tears and splits, and a couple of areas of slight chipping. Additionally, the linen has been trimmed to the borders.
