Jour de Fete (DisCina, 1949). French Double Grande (93" X 63").
Jacques Tati not only directs, but also plays the lead role in his first feature-length effort. He's a happy-go-lucky mailman, making his deliveries at his usual slow pace each day until the carnival arrives. While there, he watches a news-reel depicting the American version of rapid mail delivery. The Frenchman then decides he must modernize his own delivery system so he can be as good as the Americans. Attributed to artist Jean Jacquelin, this French country-of-origin poster is a banquet for the eyes, with its potpourri of merry colors. A first time offer from Heritage, the piece is a perfect ambassador for Tati's film, superbly bringing to life the whir of excitement experienced by carnival goers the world over.
