The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Insert (14" X 36").
To earn an Oscar back in 1953 for Special Effects using, by our standards, primitive "technology," was no small task. George Pal and his crew overcame both budget and design limitations in creating one of the more stylish looks to any sci-fi film of the 1950s. This insert poster is a rare combination of fantasy and fact, and the two divergent concepts blend perfectly to make one great poster. The art of the giant twenty-five foot across alien three-fingered hand, reaching from its space ship hovering above to grasp a frightened Ann Robinson and Gene Barry, is inspired fantasy. The 10" across spaceman's hand reaching from its grounded space ship in the 11" X 14" photo inset below is fact. The poster has been restored and cleaned, but not backed. There were holes in the bottom portion, tears in the right border into the image, and a slight fade to the color. Very Good.
