Description
King Kong (RKO, 1933). Czech One Sheet (37.5" X 49.5").It was beauty killed the beast -- but it was Kong himself that stole the hearts of moviegoers the world over, and down through the decades. This quintessential monster movie was the brainchild of co-director Merian C. Cooper, who recruited pioneering stop-motion animator Willis O'Brien to breathe life into his giant gorilla. The resulting film -- enhanced by the beauty of Fay Wray as the young innocent who entrances the monster -- was a smash-hit, and an instant classic. Although this pretty Czech poster features the same artwork seen on other paper for the title (notably the Style B American poster), the razor-sharp clarity of the stone litho printing in this example sets it apart from other sheets featuring the same basic image. Every detail, from the coarse hairs of Kong's mane to the delicate features of the distressed damsels, looks as clear and precise as if it were printed yesterday. This sublime poster had a very small amount of crossfold paper loss, which has been smoothed over with professional restoration. For Kong fans -- and really, who isn't? -- this is a must-have, and one of the finest posters we've seen on this beloved title. Very Fine+ on Linen.
