A Day at the Races (MGM, 1937). Insert (14" X 36").
The Marx Brothers were already major stars by the time they left Paramount, having conquered Broadway and the silver screen. Two of the funniest pictures of their careers, A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races, resulted from their move to MGM and association with Irving Thalberg. In the latter, the trio star with a young Maureen O'Sullivan, a woman trying to save her medical facility with the help of a veterinarian (Groucho) posing as a doctor with his accomplices (Harpo and Chico). Established Marx Brothers artist, Al Hirschfeld, provides the terrific art for this piece, showcasing playful caricatures of the brothers. Paper from this period in the Marx Brothers' career is highly sought after, and very scarce. The insert offered here is a Heritage first, and minor signs of handling include small tears in the top border, pinholes in the corners, smudging in the credits, a scuff in the bottom section, and fold wear. Overall, the piece displays well and is a priceless find for Marx Brothers' collectors. Folded, Fine+.
