Description
The Women (MGM, 1939). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D.George Cukor directs an all female cast (highly unusual for 1939) in this story of betrayal, revenge, and divorce. Based on Clare Booth Luce's hit play of the same name, the film starred some of the biggest names of 1930s Hollywood including Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Ruth Hussey, Virginia Grey, and more. Screenwriter Anita Loos skillfully filled the film with quick witted dialogue, expertly delivered by these accomplished actresses, resulting in a humorous look at the damage women do to each other when it comes to men. A 2008 remake was released starring Meg Ryan, but with the subject of divorce less scandalous and the modern cast no match for the wattage of the original, the film was not a major success. This rare style D format features Crawford, Shearer, and Russell, along with an inset of the memorable fashion show scene, which was filmed in Technicolor. The poster shows very well, and restoration has addressed a few imperfections such as tears and chips in the borders, small tears in the right border into the artwork, fold wear with touch up, cross fold separations, and a 1/4" paper loss in the right border. Fine- on Linen.
