Description
Planet of the Apes VHS 1985 - VGA 80+ NM, Box 85 and Seal 80, Slipcase, Horizontal Overlap Seal, Rear White Playhouse Video Watermarks, Playhouse Video. The original Planet of the Apes, released in 1968, profoundly impacted pop culture with its groundbreaking narrative, special effects, and the iconic twist ending that has since become one of the most famous in film history. Its exploration of themes such as human evolution, societal collapse, and the consequences of nuclear war resonated deeply with audiences amidst the social and political upheavals of the late 1960s. The film's innovative makeup effects, which allowed actors to deliver powerful performances as intelligent apes, set a new standard for the science fiction genre and led to advances in prosthetic makeup technology. Planet of the Apes spawned a franchise including sequels, a television series, comics, and merchandise, firmly establishing its place in pop culture and inspiring discussions about humanity, freedom, and civilization's fragility.
This factory sealed 1985 VHS copy of Planet of the Apes with rear Playhouse Video watermarks is believed to be the second release of the film on home video, following the original Magnetic Video release. It is currently unknown if a factory sealed example of that original release still exists today.
