Divine: The Monster Party, (Gay Life Magazine, 1978). Very Fine. Event Flyer (8.5" X 11").
Divine, one of the most iconic drag queens of all time, challenged societal norms with unapologetic flamboyance and resilience, becoming a beacon of empowerment for the LGBTQIA+ community. Through performances and activism, Divine shattered stereotypes, advocating for acceptance and visibility of queer identities at a time when they were marginalized. Their groundbreaking roles in John Waters' films not only entertained but also served as a catalyst for discussions on gender expression and sexual liberation, cementing Divine's status as a trailblazer in LGBTQIA+ history.

This unrestored event flyer was created for The Monster Party held on October 28th & 29th 1978 at Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco and features art of Divine as the iconic Bride from James Whale's Bride of Frankenstein. The party was held to raise money to combat the Briggs Initiative, that sought to ban gay and lesbian people from working in California's public schools, or from supporting them. This flyer may have general signs of use, such as light edge wear, minute corner wear, and a minor stain.
