Description

The Razor's Edge (20th Century Fox, 1946). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41.25") Style B, Norman Rockwell Artwork.
In The Razor's Edge, based on W. Somerset Maugham's brilliant novel, Larry Darrell (Tyrone Power) is a disillusioned World War I veteran who rejects material success in favor of a quest for spiritual enlightenment. As he travels through Europe and India, he encounters various characters whose lives are contrasted with his own search for meaning. Meanwhile, his former fiancée, Isabel Bradley (Gene Tierney), grapples with her own choices and the materialistic life she leads. Maugham himself wrote an early version of the film's screenplay. When not a single word was used in the final script, Maugham turned down Darryl F. Zanuck's request to write a sequel (and would in fact never work in Hollywood again). Although the film received mixed reviews when compared to the novel, it still earned four Oscar nominations (including Best Picture) with Anne Baxter winning Best Supporting Actress for the role of Sophie MacDonald. Norman Rockwell took four months to complete his painting of Tyrone Power as Larry Darrell, surrounded by the likenesses of Gene Tierney, John Payne, Anne Baxter, Clifton Webb, and Herbert Marshall. The Style B one sheet is a gorgeous piece of poster design. Restoration has addressed a bottom left corner chip, a top left corner bend, and pinholes in the borders. Fold wear is still visible, but the piece displays very nicely. A rare poster from America's foremost illustrator.
