Description
Tumbleweeds (United Artists, 1925). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. One Sheet (28" X 41").William S. Hart, after an absence from films, returned for his final starring role in this 1925 tale of homesteaders during the Cherokee Strip land rush of 1893. Though successful in its day, the film is now widely thought to be the absolute pinnacle of Hart's storied career and a seminal film of the silent era. Of special note is the climatic land rush sequence, in which all manner of conveyances, from stagecoaches to big-wheeled bicycles, race over the prairie to stake a claim. Opposed to other films of the era, Tumbleweeds is also notable for its nuanced treatment of Native and African Americans and their participation in the historic event. Folded as issued the poster exhibits splitting along the folds, light spot stains in the top and bottom border, small, chips, creases, minor marginal tears, and spot paper loss at the fold junctions. A wonderful artifact from an important film, the artwork remains vibrant.
