Description

Hearts and Saddles (Fox, 1917). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. Three Sheet (41" X 82").
Transitioning from a successful eight-year run with The Selig Company to Fox Film Corporation in 1917, Western star Tom Mix was granted a starting salary of $350 a week and began filming a series of two-reel shorts before switching to bigger feature films. Hearts and Saddles was the very first of those two reelers, marking his first ever Fox Film debut. Co-starring Victoria Forde, the beautiful Broadway actress turned movie star who remained his onscreen leading lady until the two stars married, Hearts and Saddles would be the first subject to feature the couple when it was released in conjunction with a series of Fox-Lehrman Sunshine Comedies. Thanks to positive audience reception, the comedy corral of supporting cast members was ultimately recast for the following Fox two-reeler release, A Roman Cowboy, and included Sid Jordan, Pat Chrisman, Boss Glen, and Chet Ryan. While the film is now sadly lost, for fans of the cowboy legend this impressive three sheet (almost surely the only surviving example of this three sheet) from the picture has survived. The poster has great colorful stone litho artwork of Tom Mix and another cowboy trying to one up each other with gifts for the lovely lady both want. The stone litho comes in four panels as originally printed, and has crossfold separations, fold wear, light stains, creases, dust shadows, and unobtrusive smudges. A splendid restoration opportunity for any Western collector.
