Description
Diary of a Lost Girl (Hom-Film AG, 1929). Very Fine-. German Photo Lobby Cards (2) (9" X 11.75" & 9.25 X 11.75").Offered here are a two German photo lobby cards for the G.W. Pabst and Louise Brooks collaboration, Diary of a Lost Girl. The film follows Thymian (Louise Brooks), a young woman seduced by a wealthy man and cast out by her family, who must navigate a society that punishes women while excusing men. The film exposes social hypocrisy and the oppressive moral codes of the era, portraying Thymian's struggle for survival and self-determination with stark realism. Brooks' performance, with her flapper bob and naturalistic acting, embodies the liberated yet vulnerable "New Woman" of 1920s Germany. Historically, the film is a landmark of Weimar cinema, exemplifying G.W. Pabst's use of New Objectivity to combine social critique with psychological depth. Pabst and Brooks collaborated on other iconic films, including Pandora's Box (1929), which further cemented his reputation as pioneers of modernist, socially conscious cinema and hers as a silent screen icon. Including a scene and a portrait, both cards depict wonderful images of Brooks. They exhibit some toning, silvering, corner creasing, and surface impressions. Both retain archive ink stamps on the verso.
