Description

Two Girls Wanted (Fox, 1927). One Sheet (28" X 41").
A Heritage first, this stone litho one sheet is from the 1927 silent comedy Two Girls Wanted, starring Janet Gaynor. It was a big year for the actress, as she made two other films for which she received critical acclaim, 7th Heaven and Sunrise. She was the first to receive an Academy Award for Best Actress, winning based on her performance in those two films and Street Angel in 1928. At that time, actors could received the award for multiple films. After a long and prodigious career, Gaynor reflected on receiving the first Best Actress Oscar, "Naturally, I was thrilled, but being the first year, the Academy Awards had no background or tradition, and it naturally didn't mean what it does now. Had I known then what it would come to mean in the next few years, I'm sure I'd have been overwhelmed. At the time, I think I was more thrilled over meeting Douglas Fairbanks." Three terrific images of Gaynor fill this very rare one sheet. Beautiful stone litho artwork. There are some small amount of paper loss in the upper left and lower left mirror image, crossfold separation, light foxing in the borders and title, and a tear in the lower border. Folded, Fine+.
